Rendcomb College

Rendcomb College in the Cotswolds is listed by English Heritage. These strict regulations created their own unique challenges.

When Rendcomb approached Branch to tender for the provision of an advanced switched gigabit optical network, spanning ten key listed buildings to upgrade their ICT provision, the college knew it was always going to be a challenge with no existing campus interconnectivity.

After a period of evaluation and visits to reference
sites where Branch had successfully installed
similar futureproof blown fibre systems, the college specified the Blo-Lite system from Brand-Rex with CAT5E UTP providing 100 Mbps desktop
connectivity as their preferred solution.

MORE TH>N

The company recently refurbished the Bowling Mill building on the Dean Clough campus. Part of this process involved vital improvements to the company’s network infrastructure.

The importance of the building as a heritage site presented a particular challenge. MORE TH>N decided the refurbishment should reveal and retain as many as possible of the original architectural features that had been hidden over the years, such as the curved brick ceilings and metalwork. Doing so would not only enhance the working environment for employees, it would also
acknowledge the building’s heritage and create a harmony with the other mills on the Dean Clough campus.

Branch were under pressure to come up with an innovative solution.

Syngenta

Branch, in conjunction with HP, undertook the campus wide refit using singlemode blown fibre technology from Brand-Rex to provide maximum bandwidth and resilience for the sizeable base of power users across the Syngenta campus.

Due to the sheer scale of the site GPS coordinates for each manhole, cabinet location and duct access point were established and used to
create a scale 3D model in addition to traditional CAD plans. This model and the GPS co-ordinates proved a huge asset to the team as key decisions could be taken remotely and very precisely without repeated visits to this very secure site.

Royal & Sun Alliance

In 2001, the Royal & Sun Alliance became aware that its existing networks would be unable to meet the future needs of the organisation.

The company commissioned strategic partner BT to manage the migration to Ethernet. One of BT’s first actions was to issue a tender to preferred suppliers for a cabling solution. Of three shortlisted suppliers, Branch were selected for the innovation and cost effectiveness of their product.

The Branch method allowed us to execute a big bang migration of 800 users in one weekend and
the change was invisible to them,
" says Steve Allen, Technical Specialist Royal & Sun Alliance.

November 2008
Ascent – Bristol
Ascent is a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and VT Group, and is working with the Ministry of Defence to provide military flight training to the UK Armed Forces for the next 25 years.

Branch has recently completed a state-of-the-art Information Services installation within Ascents new HQ in Bristol. The installation was carried out over 3 floors and supplied voice and data services for approximately 250 people. Cable containment was in the form of wire basket and galvanised copex. It featured the use of a ‘plug and play’ floor void basket system, which saved over 15 man days of installation labour. Branch also carried out the installation of floor boxes and cabling (cat6 and fibre) as well as all termination, labelling and testing. The system was designed and built to comply with the high standards required for Dii. A massive success for Branch as the project was delivered within a tight 5 week programme and on budget.

October 2008

Louis Brady, Head of Information Technology at The National Portrait Gallery says that he "would have no hesitation in recommending Branch Technologies for any network infrastructure installation or upgrade work in the future".

We have just won another project to tidy the cabling infrastructure with the main comms rooms of the hospital. Over the years the system has been added to and changed and as a result has become unmanageable. Once work is complete a new Cisco core network will be installed.
